The R7100 is still electric, but now also available in 12speed just like Campagnolo and SRAM!
The R7100 shifts smoothly, Shimano’s engineers have focused a lot on that.
Compared to SRAM ETAP, the group is on the heavy side, which is partly because Shimano opted for a central battery in the seat post.
Contrary to claims, the R7100 and the R8170 are not fully wireless, the battery feeds the derailleurs from the seat post with a visible cable. This makes the group relatively heavy and also fragile. Market leader Shimano has nevertheless delivered an affordable electric group that many have been looking forward to.
